Gimme More

Some months ago I was watching the VMAs and saw a scene that I guess will be remembered as one of the weirdest thing showed this year: the over expected and dazed Britney Spear’s returning. Seeing her presentation I wondered about what we can expect from music and, then, the ones who are straightly affected by it nowadays, that is, teen people. The answer was not easy to find, after all every day new-fresh young people are released and soon a bunch of teenagers will be set to worship them helped by the constant famous teenager partners: Internet and technological gadgets. All those things may not be noticed but bring us to a peculiar scenario where we can think of people and people who influence people.
In the beginning of the 21st century, what we saw was some innocent boys and girls buying CDs and dancing listening to posptars like Christina Aguilera, Eminem, N* Sync, Britney Spears, Linkin Park etc. hypnotized by their nice style and silly romantic or noisy songs. As their audience they had to grow up in order to maintain their money and prestige. Some of them disappeared to seek for new other kind of meaning to keep catching people, but other ones stood on waiting for their labels to make up new crazes, like cool pop songs, to them. Critics had already damned their kind of music and the way they influenced their fans, for instance, with dolls, jewelry, forcing a precocious sensual behavour and the way they had the power to transform young people into real carried away money machines. They got a lot of money teaching boys to be angry, likewise girls how to behave from an innocent student to a hot confused person who didn’t know if she was a girl or a woman.
Critics were almost right: most of them were such a beautiful puppet built to drive some people towards a land of unreal conditions – good to the creator and his creature. The point is that music is not the same, in other words, what really matters is who is playing it, so what we have is factories that make beautiful dolls in a row and throwing them into an ocean that soon will be in thousands of pure glasses all over the world for the people to drink and get addicted. Let me introduce to you the technology mainly represented by Internet, the best friend of everybody who wants to be “crazy-sexy-cool”. We hear deep choruses like “My humps” and “Smack that” and “Promiscuous Girl” for thousand times on radios making big impressions on teenagers mind who believe that what they have to do, as says Mr. 50 Cent, is get rich or die trying if they wish to look like those rappers in their luxurious cars and houses kissing the hottest people.
There was a time when music was up to bad or good feelings off people’s chest in order to share something. Undoubtedly disgusting music were made but it was a little different, today everything is so fast that is almost impossible handle so much information – OK, it sounds like I’m describing our day-by-day. Music is an important part of society, trough young people express what they want to say, and of course that it is very good but unfortunately the ones who could do different are hidden or struggling to break the huge amount of obstacles that grows in front of them meanwhile boys and girls will be downloading music and putting their lyrics in practice around somewhere.
To sum up, it seems we’ll be surrounded by our beloved puppets for a long time. In times of the unavoidable high-technology advent everything must be furiously rapid to work out otherwise it will be discarded, owing to this, entertainment vehicles develop well the character of teacher that shows the machines are extremely welcome, so, “Wind it Up”!
